Sara Cleo Brumble, 98 | Port City Daily

WILMINGTON – Sara Cleo Brumble died in her family’s prayer on Monday, January 10, 2022, shortly after her 98th birthday. She was born on January 1, 1924 in Johnston County to John Henry Ferrell and Alonia Cockrell Ferrell. Cleo and her husband, Major L. Brumble, lived in Wilmington all their married lives. While living in Wilmington, Cleo was a devoted member of the Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church where she served in many roles during her years. She retired from First Union Mortgage Company in Wilmington. She was very proud to be a member of the American Business Women’s Association.

In addition to her husband and parents, Cleo was preceded by three sisters and three brothers in death.

Cleo leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law LaVonne B. and Leddell Casey; Granddaughter Barbara C. Medlin and husband Anthony; Great-granddaughter Casey Lynn Medlin; numerous nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed gardening, dancing, and spending time crocheting and knitting with the New Hanover County’s RSVP group. They made beanie caps for newborns at the NHRMC.

Cleo was affectionately named Grandma from Barbara and Nana from Casey. Her granddaughter and great-granddaughter were close to her heart and their blessings in their lives. Cleo was known for her kind, sweet spirit and quick wit. She will certainly miss her family, but she is comforted by God’s word and the assurance of eternal life.

The family will receive friends in the Burgaw Chapel of the Quinn McGowen Funeral Home on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. The funeral service begins at 12:00 p.m. The funeral will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
